Your Ultimate Dog Grooming Year: How to Focus, Manifest, and Achieve in 2025!

Brought to you by Groomer Nation—Empowering and Supporting Groomers to Reach Their Full Potential

As we welcome 2025, here’s something I’ve discovered about goals: the year ahead isn’t just waiting to unfold—it’s ready to be shaped by you. The power to create, grow, and thrive is in your hands. How you step into this year, with clear intentions and a focused mindset, will set the stage for everything you’re about to achieve. This is your year to rise, and it all starts with you.

That's why it’s crucial to step into the new year with purpose. This isn’t about writing down the same old New Year’s resolutions that looses momentum by the second week of January.

What I’m talking about is entering 2025 with clarity—clarity about what you truly desire, what you want to create, and who you want to become.

This isn’t just about ticking off a list of achievements. It’s about setting a powerful energetic tone for the year ahead. It's about the habits you cultivate, the beliefs you adopt, and the version of yourself that you’re committed to stepping into.

Green Lights : A memoir by Matthew McConaughey.

Let me share a story with you that I found uplifting. It comes from a conversation between Vishen Lakhiani and Matthew McConaughey about Matthews memoir and his life's journey on the Mindvalley Podcast.

Imagine this: It’s 1992. Matthew McConaughey is a college student. He’s not the A-list actor we recognise today, but just another young person trying to figure out life.

But one night, something pivotal happens.

Matthew takes a piece of paper, and he writes down 10 things he wants to accomplish in his life.

✅ Become a father.

✅ Find and keep the woman for me.

✅ Keep my relationship with God.

✅ Chase my best self.

✅ Be an egotistical utilitarian.

✅ Take more risks.

✅ Stay close to mom and family.

✅ Win an Oscar for Best Actor.

✅ Look back and enjoy the view.

✅ Just keep livin.

But there’s one goal that stands out:

No 8. “Win an Oscar for Best Actor”

By conventional measures, this list might be written off as nothing more than wishful thinking. But here’s something to think about... what if Manifestation isn’t just a fantasy—what if it really is a force that works! Let me explain to you how this is a possibility.

What Matthew did wasn’t some random stroke of luck; he tapped into something far deeper—a truth that is seen to unfold time and again and not just for the famous, this happens to everyday people: the power of manifestation. The core truth is simple: your life is shaped by the thoughts you give the most power to !

It’s no surprise that “manifest” was chosen as the word of the year by the Cambridge dictionarywww.cam.ac.uk/news/manifest-is-cambridge-dictionary-word-of-the-year?utm_source=chatgpt.com for 2024. More and more people are waking up to the idea that when you focus intensely on a vision—one that’s connected to your heart’s deepest desires—you start to shape reality to align with that vision.

The Target Attracts the Arrow

Matthew put it brilliantly when he said:

“The target attracts the arrow.”

Think about that for a second.

The target attracts the arrow in my mind, means that your vision, goals, or desires act as a guiding force in your life. Just like an arrow is aimed at a target, your thoughts, intentions, and actions are directed toward your vision. The target doesn’t just sit there; it pulls you toward it. The more clear and focused your vision is, the more likely you are to take actions, make decisions, and find opportunities that bring you closer to achieving it. It reflects the idea that when you're clear on what you want, the universe (or life) responds by aligning circumstances, people, and events in your favour, helping you reach your goal. You might call it coincidence, but what if it’s more than that?

The target attracts the arrow. I love this!

Fast forward 20 years, and there’s Matthew McConaughey, holding an Oscar at the Academy Awards.

How did that happen? How did something so “impossible” become a reality?

Here’s the most amazing part: Not only did Matthew win the Oscar, but every single goal on his list came true, no matter how basic some of his goals were.

Another great example is in 1985, Jim Carrey made a bold, almost ridiculous move. He wrote himself a check for $10 million for "acting services rendered," dated it 10 years into the future, and kept it in his wallet. Fast forward to November 1995, and Carrey finds out he’s been cast in Dumb and Dumber for—wait for it—$10 million.

Now, some people might call this the law of attraction, thinking it’s just about positive thinking pulling in positive outcomes. But that misses the real lesson. What made this work wasn’t just wishful thinking, woo woo, or some mystical force. It was the act of writing that check, setting the intention, putting it in his wallet, and carrying it around every single day for 10 years.

As Sir John Hargrave puts it:“Until it’s on paper, it’s vapor.”

Until its on Paper its Vapor

You need to turn your dreams into something tangible. Until you commit them to something real—like a written goal, a clear intention, a specific plan—those thoughts are just empty ideas swirling around. They don’t have the energy to create change.

You must create positive and meaningful thought loops—your internal narrative must reinforce your intentions and visions, so they’re constantly shaping your reality. When you consistently see and think about your goals, you attract opportunities and actions that align with those goals.

What’s incredible about stories like Jim Carrey’s and Matthew McConaughey’s isn’t that they’re actors who got lucky—it’s that they’re human beings, just like you and me. The difference? They understood that nothing is beyond reach if you’re willing to claim it, focus on it, and take consistent action toward it.

The Power of Written Goals and Accountability in Grooming Success

As groomers, setting our goals in my opinion is an essential part of growing in your craft and business. A study from Dominican University revealed some interesting insights that can help us as professionals achieve more—and it's not just about writing goals down. Here's how it can make a difference for you:

  1. Accountability Fuels Progress

The study showed that when people sent weekly progress reports to a friend, they achieved far more than those with unwritten or even written goals. This could be as simple as sharing your goals with a fellow groomer or your family, creating that extra layer of accountability to keep you on track.

  2. Public Commitment Matters

Making a public commitment to your goals helped people accomplish significantly more. For us, this could mean committing to our goals with our team or clients, posting about our aspirations on social media, or even sharing goals in professional groups. It holds you accountable to others and boosts motivation!

  3. The Power of Written Goals

The study also found that those who wrote down their goals achieved much more than those who didn't. When you write your goals—whether it's to perfect a new grooming technique, grow your clientele, or improve your business operations—it gives you something tangible to work toward. Your goals become real, and your commitment to them strengthens.

Now it’s time to get pen to paper and start crafting your goals for the year ahead. Here’s a list of example goals to help you get started and inspire your own vision for 2025:

  1. Achieve mastery in a niche grooming technique – Whether it’s hand-stripping, creative grooming, hair and skin restoration, or specific breed cuts, aim to be the go-to expert for that skill.

  2. Offer a luxury pet spa experience – Build a high-end, boutique grooming service that not only offers grooming but an indulgent spa experience for pets, combining relaxation, ozone, skin and coat restoration and care.

  3. Commit to a personal fitness challenge – Take on a goal like completing a marathon, or starting a yoga or pilates class to improve your physical and mental health, helping you stay energised and focused.

  4. Spend more time in nature – Set a goal to get outdoors regularly, whether it’s hiking, walking your dog, or simply taking time to be in nature for mental clarity and rejuvenation.

  5. Cultivate a healthier work-life balance – Set clear boundaries for work and relaxation, ensuring you have more time for yourself, your family, and your passions outside of grooming.

  6. Compete in a grooming competition –Give it a go and join a grooming competition to challenge yourself in a supportive environment. It's a great way to learn new techniques, connect with fellow groomers, and see how far you've come!

  7. Expand my business – Grow your grooming business by exploring new services, reaching new customers, or even opening new locations to increase your reach and impact.

  8. Achieve financial stability – Set a target to increase profits by 20% or more within the next year by raising your prices, adding new services, or attracting more clients.

  9. Strengthen my emotional resilience – Work on managing stress more effectively by learning and practicing techniques like mindfulness, journaling, or talking with a life coach or mentor.

  10. Look back and enjoy the view – Take time to pause and reflect on your accomplishments, appreciating how far you've come and setting your sights on new adventures.
